Frequently Asked Question's

I want to run the event but need help finding teammates.

We recommend that you join our Facebook group, and leave a message. There are always people looking for substitute runners and wanting to start new teams.  You can also contact us, we will be more than happy to give you some leads.

Do I need to have all 8-12 people together to register?

No, it is not necessary but recommended.  Team members can be updated until race day although we cannot guarantee a correct shirt size.   The team registration fee must be paid at registration but if you dont know all your runners, that is fine.  If you intended on running with 11 runners and only end up with 9, you can add two runners up to 3 weeks before the race or just run with your 9 current runners.

When is the last time my team can update our 10K times?

10K times can be updated until Sept 15, 2011.  Not to worry- all of this information will be in the Captains Packet, we will also send out a reminder!

When will Race Start Times be given out?

Race times will be given out about 2 - 3 weeks in advanced of the race, we will notify you as they are ready.

Does your race benefit a charity?

Yes, our race will be benefiting Arthritis Research.  As you might know this is a disease that effects many people.  There are over  100 different types of arthritis with no known cure.  It is estimated in the next 20 years that 67 million Americans will be affected.   Here is the link for the AOII website to benefit the Arthritis Foundation.

What happens if one of our runners drops out?

They can be replaced by another runner of the same sex (and depending the same age) up to race time.  Just let us know that you have a replacement, or if you still have at least 8 runners, you can just run without the runner that had to drop out (see the above schedule of runners).

Who provides the vans?

Each team is responsible for their own arrangment of vans.  You can rent 12 or 15 passenger vans from many of recommended partners or you can use an SUV (not recommended since you have 6 people in each SUV or Van).    Please see our website for VAN RENTAL information and promo codes.

What makes the Capital to Coast Relay different?

These relays while similar in procedure, The Capital to Coast Relay is different by its landscape, weather, elevation, and LENGTH.  We are the longest relay race in Texas at 223 miles!!  We have personally run many other relays as well and know what makes these types of races fun and enjoyable and an experience that will leave you ready to do it again!  Austin is one of the best destinations in the US to go for outdoor activities, social functions and activities, as well as being the LIVE MUSIC CAPITAL of the world.  A great reason to come visit with your friends!

How does it work with a team of less than 12?

If your team is less than 12, then you may still compete, the only difference is that some of your runners will have to run more than 3 legs.    The only thing is that once you declare a running order, you MUST stay in that order.

8 person team

If you have 8 runners on the team, then each runners 1-4 will run 5 legs, runners 5-8 will run 4 legs.

 Runner 1 would run legs 1, 9, 17, 25, and 33.               Runner 5 would run legs 5, 13, 21, and 29.

How am I able to be a sponsor?

We are always looking for great partners and associates to work with to make this event AWESOME!! Click HERE to see what sponsorship opportunities would work best for your company.

How does the relay race work?

The entire 223 mile race is run by 8-12 teammates, each one will run a total of three legs (varying in length from 4 to 9 miles).   Runner 1 will run his leg and hand the 'baton' to Runner 2 who is waiting for him/her at the first exchange.   Runner 2 takes off and Runner 1 rejoins his teammates in the van (most likely in the 'stinky' seat - where the sweaty runner rests and recovers :)  and then they go to the next checkpoint to drop off Runner 3, and so forth. Each runner will then run every 12 legs (this scenario is for a full team of 12)

Van 1 will carry runners 1-6.      Van 2 will carry runners 7-12.
