As the 6th annual Capital to Coast Relay came to a close - it was once again an absolute blast! We had 47 teams register and while heat and injuries took its toll on some of our teams, as well as solo runners, etc. The race went finished with some of the fastest times ever in the race.
This year's race included a new leg 1 which went an additional 3+ miles through downtown Austin - around the capitol building and up to the University of Texas campus. Made for a memorable and tough leg.
We also had the first time in race history where we had to skip a leg. All teams skipped legs 26, 27 due to a bridge that was demolished outside of Beeville on the Friday morning of the race. The teams didnt skip a beat and just kept on cruising!
While some things changed, one thing remained the same. The top 2 teams in the race. For the 6th consecutive year, and the ONLY winners of the C2C Relay, the STW Krav Maga Silent Warriors won again and narrowly missed their course record. They finished in 24 hrs and 11 min. Right on their heels, the University of Texas open team placed in 2nd once again but the gap is closing!! Only 29 minutes behind!!
But for the most part of the race, not a cloud in the sky and the beer was nice and cold at the finish!
We had the unbelievable feat of having 3 persons attempt the race solo. Roel Gonzalez, Jacob Fetterolf, and Scottie Estrada. They each made an amazing effort but the heat and high temps made it so none were able to finish. They each were an inspiration and a role model to all teams!! What awesome athletes they are!
Next year we are looking for as much inspiration and excitment as we will be having the 7th annual C2C Relay on Oct 14-15, 2016.
